Research
Iswec grounds on a pluriennal solid research. From a group of expert engineers of the Polytechnic School of Turin in 2005, thinking to a solution to the energy supply in the Mediterranean area, a unique and innovative idea came to life, able to be exploited in every sea and ocean around the world. ISWEC is the technology that the world is waiting for: clean, unstoppable, efficient.
Design
The ISWEC device is designed for the sea, to extract the amount of energy it can donate and to respect the whole ecosystem. The gyroscopic solution allow ISWEC to be completely operative for every wave condition. Technological solutions adopted guarantee full compatibility with the marine environment and a null impact on the surrounding nature.
The design process has been optimized through several steps and the most important have been:
- Creation of various scaled prototypes;
- Networking with sector expercts (University of Edinburgh);
- Visits at prominet experimental sites (EMEC @ Stromness, Orkneys);
- Development of a customized design routine, backed-up with commercial computational tools.
Today, W4E grounds its products on solid methodologies, which have been repeatedly confirmed by the various performed test campaigns.
Testing
W4E can rely upon several years of machines in the water, since the construction of the first prototype in 2007. From then on, several wave tank tests have been performed, overcoming the performances expectations of the different ISWEC prototypes. 2011 will be a crucial year for the development of the company, since W4E is going to sea! W4E aims to carry on some experiments both on a scaled prototype and on a 1:1 model.
